SHADOWFRAG FONT KIT Version 1.200 A custom display typeface based on the SHADOWFRAG logo: heavy forward-leaning blocks, angular cuts, bomb Q and shuriken X, plus optional bow and crossed-katana letterforms. WHAT'S NEW IN 1.200 Typing Q or q now gives a round bomb with a fuse at the lower right. Typing X or x gives a four-point diagonal shuriken with an open center. Their color planes and depth follow the bow and katana style. Enable stylistic set ss03, "Plain Q and X", when you want the original conventional Q and X instead. START HERE Open Preview.html in a browser to try the fonts without installing them. The initial sample, QUICK EXIT, shows both new default symbols. It contains embedded font data, editable sample text, size and feature controls, an alphabet specimen, and buttons for copying the signature glyphs. It works offline. Its TTF download links also contain embedded font data, so those downloads work even when the preview page is opened on its own. FILES fonts/ShadowfragDisplay-Regular.ttf Installable monochrome font. Uses the text color chosen in your application. fonts/ShadowfragColor-Regular.ttf Installable color companion with ivory faces, coral branding accents and dark navy/slate depth. INSTALLATION Windows Extract the kit. Open a .ttf file and choose Install, or right-click it and choose Install. Repeat for the color companion if you want both versions. Reopen your design application if the new font is not yet in its font menu. macOS Extract the kit. Open a .ttf file in Font Book and choose Install Font. Repeat for the color companion if desired. Reopen your design application if the font menu has not refreshed. The family names are "Shadowfrag Display" and "Shadowfrag Color". Both use the Regular style name. The forward lean and heavy weight are part of the drawing, so do not apply synthetic italic or bold styling. If an older version is already installed, replace it with version 1.200 and reopen your design application to clear its cached copy of the previous glyphs. CHARACTER COVERAGE Uppercase A-Z Digits 0-9 Common punctuation and symbols Latin-1 accented letters, including AE, ETH, O SLASH and THORN forms Six private-use signature glyphs listed below Lowercase input uses uppercase glyph shapes. This is an all-caps display design, not a separate lowercase alphabet. It is intended for titles, logos, game menus and short labels, rather than small body text. Q/q and X/x use the bomb and shuriken by default. This applies to both fonts. The ordinary Q and X remain available through ss03, "Plain Q and X". THE SHADOWFRAG WORDMARK With standard ligatures enabled, typing SHADOWFRAG as a complete word selects the special wide wordmark. Its first A is conventional, its D is an archery bow, and its final A is formed from crossed katanas. The color font gives FRAG the coral face color while SHADOW stays ivory. If an application does not apply the wordmark automatically, enable standard ligatures in its typography/OpenType controls, or use the direct wide-logo glyph. Disable the logo ligature to keep the name as individually editable letters. OPENTYPE FEATURES liga Logo ligature for the complete word SHADOWFRAG. kern Pair spacing adjustments for selected letter combinations. ss01 Bow D alternate. Replaces D in the selected text. ss02 Crossed-katana A alternate. Replaces A in the selected text. ss03 Plain Q and X. Restores conventional Q/X in the selected text. The stylistic sets apply to every matching letter in the selected text. For the branded wordmark with only its final A changed, use the logo ligature or the wide/stacked logo glyph instead of switching ss02 on for the whole name. DIRECT GLYPHS U+E000 Bow D U+E001 Crossed-katana A U+E002 Wide SHADOWFRAG wordmark U+E003 Stacked SHADOWFRAG wordmark U+E004 Bomb Q U+E005 Shuriken X Copy these from Preview.html or select them in your application's glyph panel. Keep a Shadowfrag font applied when pasting them. These are private-use character codes; another font may show a missing-character box or an unrelated symbol. Leave ss03, "Plain Q and X", disabled when using the bomb or shuriken. It also changes their private-use copies because those select the same Q and X glyphs. WEB USE Keep the .woff2 files in your site's font folder and adjust these paths: @font-face { font-family: "Shadowfrag Display"; src: url("fonts/ShadowfragDisplay-Regular.woff2") format("woff2"); font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; font-display: swap; } @font-face { font-family: "Shadowfrag Color"; src: url("fonts/ShadowfragColor-Regular.woff2") format("woff2"); font-style: normal; font-weight: 400; font-display: swap; } .game-title { font-family: "Shadowfrag Color", "Shadowfrag Display", sans-serif; font-synthesis: none; font-feature-settings: "liga" 1, "ss01" 0, "ss02" 0, "ss03" 0; line-height: 1.3; } .plain-title { font-family: "Shadowfrag Display", sans-serif; font-feature-settings: "liga" 0, "ss03" 1; color: #f5efda; } COLOR AND APPLICATION SUPPORT The Display font is the conventional single-color choice. Its fill comes from your text color setting, so it works for arbitrary brand colors and outlines. The Color font stores its palette and depth inside the font. Color support and OpenType feature controls vary by application. If an app shows the Color font as a single-color outline, use Display or the supplied specimen to compare the intended appearance. Applications may also override font colors during export. The color font's ordinary letters use ivory faces. The complete branded wordmark and its direct logo glyphs contain the ivory/coral split. The katana alternate also carries its blade and handle colors. The Color font's bomb Q has a filled round body and a fuse at the lower right. The Display font draws a ring and fuse using the same outer geometry, preserving the open counter of a Q in a single text color. The shuriken X has an open center in both versions. Use the Color font for the filled bomb and layered depth. DESIGN NOTES The alphabet extends the logo's heavy, angular style into usable type. Version 1.100 replaces the initial weapon drawings with polygon traces taken directly from the approved logo. The bow keeps its original narrow profile, nearly vertical string, segmented grip and overhang above and below the letters. The katana A keeps its broad blades, ivory cutting edges, flat guard plates, long slate handles and ivory endcaps. The traces retain the original tilt and relative height; the alphabet's forward shear is not applied a second time. Version 1.200 adds the round bomb Q and diagonal four-point shuriken X in the same palette and depth treatment. Their geometry is designed as scalable font paths. The approved bow, katana and wordmark geometry remain available alongside them. The Color font contains flat vector color planes. The source PNG's soft lighting and subtle surface texture are not encoded as raster pixels. The Display font uses monochrome outlines, so the ivory/red separation requires the Color font. The Color font's fallback outlines include the full outer silhouette and depth to prevent clipping in renderers that allocate color glyphs from those bounds. Both versions remain scalable vector fonts. Use the large specimen and live tester to judge spacing and the weapon details at your intended display size. Keep the source files if you want to refine the alphabet, spacing or logo variants later.
